Syracuse beats Elon and Morgan State on final day of Citrus Classic

Syracuse (9-5) finished play at the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Florida with two wins. The victories marked the second and third of the weekend for the Orange as it finished 3-2 in the tournament.

In game one, an Alicia Hansen sacrifice fly proved to be the game-winning run in a 3-2 victory over Elon (7-6). Bryce Holmgren went 2-for-2 on the afternoon, including an RBI single to open the games scoring. Sydney O’Hara went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored to complement her win in the circle. The senior struck out six while allowing one earned run in two and two-thirds innings of work in relief of AnnaMarie Gatti.

In game two, Syracuse defeated Morgan State (4-7) 8-0 in just five innings. Freshman Alexa Romero tallied nine strikeouts while allowing one hit. O’Hara stayed hot at the plate in the second game with three RBIs on two hits. Faith Cain and Sammy Fernandez also found success in the batter’s box with two RBIs apiece.

Syracuse travels to Tampa, Florida next weekend for its final tournament of the season, which opens with a game against Georgia State on Friday.
